ARIMANY, Josep Lluís

Born in La Garriga in 1923 and passed away in Granollers in 1999. A self-taught painter and a pediatrician by profession. He held his first solo exhibition in 1973. He received numerous awards, including the Gold Medal at the International Contest of Physician-Painters (1969), two prizes at the Quirón Contest in Barcelona (1983 and 1985), and recognition in painting competitions in Granollers (1944, 1945, and 1950) and Palamós (1980). His naturalistic style, characterized by technical dexterity and a mastery of drawing, focused primarily on the human figure, particularly women; dancers and nudes that place him in the finest tradition of Catalan figurative painting. During the final years of his life, Josep Lluís Arimany turned toward sacred art. Notable works from this period include The Christ of Montserrat, installed in the Basilica of Montserrat, and a religious piece created for the Vatican.
