CASTELLÀ, Salvador
Spanish painter and watercolorist Salvador Castellà (Canet de Mar, Barcelona, 1960) is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Catalan watercolor and an active leader in promoting the regional artistic community; his solid plastic training was shaped under the direct tutelage and mastery of renowned painters such as Francisco Oliver and Alberto Alís, from whom he absorbed a refined command of the water technique, compositional rigor, and a poetic treatment of natural light. Throughout his extensive professional career, his artistic production has achieved notable international recognition, being regularly exhibited in galleries, salons, and institutions across Spain, France, Italy, Andorra, and Japan. His mastery of watercolor has earned him a broad and prestigious record of national and international honors, including the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 5th Exhibition of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 42nd International Fine Arts Salon of the Town of Béziers (France), the First Prize for Watercolor awarded by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Special Prize from the Association of Watercolorists of Girona and Regions, the Diploma of Honor from the Artistes Peintres Indépendants Ariégeois (France), and an Honorable Mention at the 1st International Watercolor Competition of Bilbao; in the institutional and associative sphere, Castellà plays a leading role in the preservation and dissemination of water-based painting, currently serving as President of the Association of Watercolorists of Girona and Regions, as well as Vice President of the Círculo Artístico Canetenc.
