FUENTETAJA, José Luís

Born in Madrid in 1951. At the age of 13, he began working in advertising and attended the Vallecas School of Arts and Crafts. He enrolled in Fine Arts and, as the summer of 1966 approached, made his first visit to Sitges, a town he would return to every year and eventually choose as his residence. In Madrid, he took classes under Pedro Mozas. In 1969, he befriended Sidney Nagley, who organized his first exhibition in Toronto, Canada. He held his first exhibition at the Ateneu Barcelonès in 1970. He formed a friendship with La Vanguardia art critic Fernando Gutiérrez, and the Count of Caralt commissioned him to illustrate a new edition of García Lorca's Romancero gitano. His works are held in the collections of the Provincial Deputation of Barcelona, the National Sports Council, the Fine Arts Museum of Granada, and the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Prints in Marbella.
