MARTRÓ, Andreu
Born in Sant Quintí de Mediona, Barcelona, in 1942 and passed away in Barcelona in 2012. A painter and printmaker, he graduated in Pictorial Procedures from the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts of Barcelona and earned his degree in Painting from the Sant Jordi Superior Fine Arts School in Barcelona. He participated in numerous exhibitions since 1972 (Spanish Institute of London, National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, The Florida Museum of Hispanic and Latin American Art) and earned major awards. His work is held in various museums, including the Museum of Modern Art of Catalonia. He painted the altar murals at the Sanctuary of Misericòrdia in Reus, among other significant projects. Rafael Santos Torroella wrote about his work: "He constructs forms and figures of striking monumentality—figures and forms that stand like monuments dedicated to the concerns that preoccupy him."
