OLIVÉ, Josep

Born in Barcelona in 1940. Son of the illustrious watercolorist Ceferino Olivé (1907-1995), considered one of Spain's finest watercolorists (he won first medal at the International Art Gallery in London). Josep Olivé trained at the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona, where he was a disciple of Labarta, and later studied at the Escola de Sant Jordi. He held his first solo exhibition in León in 1962, subsequently showing his work in Barcelona and other Spanish cities. Josep Olivé's watercolors continue to be those of a master who knows all the secrets of his art, yet is always guided by a profound sensitivity and a deeply personal, lyrical vision of reality. Josep Olivé is in love with light and seeks its effects in every landscape he represents. He paints with feeling and immense mastery; not for nothing did his career begin when he was just a child emulating his father, the great watercolorist Ceferino Olivé.
