The Spanish painter and visual artist Fernando Lozano (born in Madrid in 1958) is a prominent figure in Spanish lyric figuration and contemporary landscape painting; his artistic training began at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned his degree in Fine Arts specializing in painting and drawing, supplementing his academic education with a deep individual study of classical techniques and artwork restoration; throughout his years of academic and practical study, he was taught by distinguished professors from the Madrid artistic scene of the second half of the 20th century, including renowned painters of the Spanish figurative tradition who instilled in him compositional rigor, drawing discipline, and mastery in support preparation; regarding his influences, his pictorial language draws directly from the great tradition of classic Spanish landscape art of the School of Madrid and Mediterranean luminism, combining the influence of French impressionism and European poetic realism with the synthesis of light typical of masters such as Joaquín Sorolla, Benjamín Palencia, and the landscape painters of the Sierra de Guadarrama region; regarding his subject matter, his production focuses primarily on the poetic exploration of natural and urban landscapes, with a special affinity for views of the Iberian geography, corners of Madrid, salt marshes, intimate still lifes, and coastal scenes under Mediterranean and Atlantic light, technically characterized by the dominant use of oil on canvas and panel, watercolor, and pastel, applied with a fluid, expressive brushstroke rich in material quality that grants an extraordinary luminous and atmospheric presence to his compositions; throughout his long professional career, he has been honored with numerous awards and accolades in national and international painting competitions, notably receiving awards at the Madrid Autumn Salon, the Enrique Ginestal National Painting Prize, as well as first prizes and honorable mentions in various plein air and figurative art competitions organized by public institutions and cultural foundations in Spain; regarding the destination of his work and the museums and institutions holding his art, his creations form part of major public and private collections in Spain and abroad, being represented in bank collections, corporate foundations, town halls, and provincial councils, as well as in museum spaces and cultural centers across the Community of Madrid and in distinguished private collections specializing in contemporary Spanish figurative painting.
