OLLIVRY, Francine

Born in Nantes, France, she resides in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre. She studied at the School of Fine Arts in Nantes, in the architecture department. Her first exhibition took place in her hometown in 1978, and since then she has exhibited in major cities in France as well as in the USA (Dallas and New York). Her well-known "collages" are meticulously created to bring streets, monuments, and perspectives back to life. There are no sketches, no lines. The shapes emerge as the artist gradually adds pieces of "Canson" paper in a puzzle of glued and cut papers. Her only tools are a pair of scissors, tweezers, and a tube of glue. The French university professor and poet Yves Cosson (1919-2012) wrote a book about the artist in 1985 titled Francine Ollivry. La découpe du ciel avec des poèmes d'Yves Cosson.
