David Mercadé i Recasens (Barcelona, 1900 - 1970) was a prominent 20th-century Catalan painter and watercolorist, whose work was closely tied to Barcelona and surrounding towns such as Badalona. He developed a large part of his artistic life in Catalonia during the central decades of the 20th century. Although he mastered drawing and various pictorial techniques, he dedicated much of his creative drive to the art of watercolor. He actively participated in numerous art exhibitions and shows held in Catalonia, standing out particularly in the artistic contests of Badalona between 1948 and 1951, where his mastery with the brush was repeatedly awarded with honorable mentions and prizes by specialized audiences and critics alike. His style was characterized by great technical sensitivity in handling watercolor on paper, achieving transparency, luminosity, and careful definition in architectural and landscape details. He skillfully cultivated the urban landscape, capturing emblematic corners, monuments, and squares throughout Catalan geography. Among his most recognized creations are works such as his watercolor titled Cathedral of Barcelona (1952), as well as various urban prints signed and dated throughout the 1950s (such as his works from 1555).
