TORNERÓ, Francesc

Born in Barcelona, Francesc Torneró (1934-2018) studied at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona and later at the prestigious Sant Jordi Higher School of Fine Arts. His artistic talent and dedication earned him significant early recognitions, such as the "El Paular" scholarship in 1956 and, subsequently, the National Landscape Prize in 1966. Although he initially experimented with abstract tendencies, informalism, and symbolic elements typical of mid-20th-century avant-garde movements, Torneró underwent a personal evolution back toward representation and the elements of reality. He retained the compositional rigor and depth from those phases, consolidating a distinctly impressionist and realist style. He is especially renowned for his masterly oil paintings featuring urban landscapes of Barcelona, coastal scenes, and interior compositions, where he stands out for his exceptional mastery of light, loose yet precise brushwork, and a well-adjusted chromatic palette of great formal balance. Throughout his career, he held numerous solo exhibitions, succeeding in captivating critics and private collectors across all five continents with his work.
