The Vladimir School represents one of the most monumental iconographic and artistic traditions of Old Rus and Russian sacred art, established in the 12th century under the patronage of Grand Princes Andrei Bogolyubsky and Vsevolod the Big Nest in the Vladimir-Suzdal region, characterized by the transition from rigid Byzantine style toward a distinct painterly language defined by poetic lyrical sensitivity, monumental refinement, deeply spiritual facial expressions, and a masterly use of light and gold leaf embellishments over turned or carved hardwood, counting among its historical masters iconic figures such as Andrei Rublev and Daniil Chyorny —who painted the frescoes of the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir in the early 15th century— alongside modern regional successors like master miniaturists and iconographers D. Vinogradov and L.
