BAQUÉS, Josep

Born in Montmeló, Catalonia, in 1931 and passed away in Barcelona in 2021. After the war, he moved to Barcelona. At the age of 15, he began working as an apprentice at a textile printing company and later entered the advertising field as a draftsman. In 1957, he set up his first studio in Barcelona. In 1961, he co-founded Grafistes FAD. He received the Silver Delta Award in 1972 and the Laus Award in 1974, and was nominated twice for the National Design Award. In 1968, he held his first exhibition as a visual artist in Barcelona. He created lithographic editions for Sweden and Germany. A major collection of his works is compiled in his book Baqués… Lirisme màgic. His work, based on a deeply personal surrealism, has been exhibited in Spain, the USA, France, Germany, Sweden, Venezuela, Andorra, Portugal, India, Canada, and Japan.
