PINTEÑO, Carmen

Born in Huércal-Overa, Almería, in 1937. Specialized in oil landscapes and considered one of the finest 20th-century painters from Almería, her work continues the Indalian Movement founded by Jesús de Perceval (1915–1985), as well as the lineage of masters like Benjamín Palencia (1894–1980). She has received numerous awards, including an Honorable Mention at the New York Summer Salon in 1995. Notable among her many exhibitions are those held at the Salon des Nations in Paris and the Goya Art Gallery in New York. In 2012, art historian and critic María Carmen Fernández de Capel Baños presented Carmen Pinteño. Pintora almeriense, a 200-page book on the artist's work. Her paintings are held in collections such as the Union des Banques Suisses (Zurich), BBVA, Banco de Andalucía, the Apostolic Nunciature to Ivory Coast, the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations (Geneva), and The Copley Society of Boston.
