DORCA, Andreu Miquel

Andreu Miquel Dorca (Barcelona, 1941), commonly known in the art world as Miquel Dorca, is a prominent Catalan painter and watercolorist, closely tied to the Girona region and with a career deeply rooted in the Catalan landscape painting tradition. Although born in Barcelona in 1941, he settled in his childhood in the city of Olot (in the province of Girona), a historic enclave of great pictorial and landscape tradition in Catalonia. He grew up in an artistic environment marked by the Olot school of painting. He was a member of and actively participated in local artistic collectives, such as the Olot-based group "Dolí d'Art." Likewise, his geographical and life ties have extended to other Catalan towns of great cultural and tourist weight, such as Sitges and Barcelona. Miquel Dorca stands out fundamentally for his mastery of the watercolor technique, a medium in which he has developed most of his creative output, achieving great agility in his brushstrokes and immense luminosity on paper. His pictorial catalog primarily encompasses urban views, emblematic squares, and maritime corners of Catalonia. Among his most recurrent works are well-known prints such as the Plaça Reial, views of the Port of Barcelona, corners of La Rambla, as well as river landscapes and Catalan coastal panoramas.
