CASACUBERTA, Jordi

Jordi Casacuberta i Codinach (Olot, Girona, 1944 - October 15, 2011) was a prominent Catalan painter, draftsman, printmaker, and muralist, closely tied to the artistic tradition of the Garrotxa region. He was born in Olot in 1944, a historic enclave of deep pictorial roots. He trained at the emblematic Olot School of Fine Arts. Although his contact with art was constant, he began painting regularly and professionally around 1969. From his beginnings, he experimented with various technical and plastic procedures. His style evolved progressively toward abstraction, reaching his full expressive maturity around 1974. Despite its pronounced abstract nature, his pictorial compositions are characterized by always maintaining subtle yet clear references to the human figure. In addition to his prolific work in easel painting, Casacuberta skillfully cultivated drawing (with works in ink, watercolor, or wax crayons), printmaking, and mural painting.
