MARTÍ BOFARULL, Josep

Born in Barcelona in 1965, Martí Bofarull is a prominent contemporary artist whose work revolves primarily around urban painting. His artistic sensibility seeks to capture the vital pulse and dynamism of large cities, turning buildings and streets into true protagonists endowed with soul and character. For Bofarull, urban architecture is not a simple decorative or static element; on his canvases, buildings equate to and represent the people who inhabit them, reflecting the heartbeat and energy of modern society. Although he displays remarkable versatility in still lifes and other themes, it is in urban landscapes—especially those of his native Barcelona and other major capitals—that he most comfortably deploys his pictorial mastery, characterized by the interplay of light, textures, and living atmospheres. His work has been studied by renowned art critics and writers, featuring in important publications and monographs such as Cent Paisatgistes and Interiors by Josep Maria Cadena, as well as Martí Bofarull, 100 obres de 10 anys (1990-2000), a review of his first decade of artistic maturity featuring cultural analysis texts by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.
