Ménage à trois

1.100 €

The sculpture Ménage à trois (1997), conceived by the renowned sculptor Fili Plaza and autographically numbered as edition 3/9 of a limited edition of nine castings, is a medium-sized piece executed in lost-wax bronze with a brown-toned patina accented by greenish nuances, set upon a monolithic rusted iron plinth; the artist's plastic training and evolution are reflected in a rigorous mastery of volume and the tactile qualities of metal, technically characterized by a striking material contrast between the organic warmth of hand-modeled bronze and the purist, industrial sobriety of the naturally oxidized iron pedestal; regarding its influences, the piece directly connects with the great tradition of 20th-century organic figurativism and the synthetic sensualism of masters of European and Catalan sculpture such as Auguste Rodin, Josep Clarà, and Aristide Maillol, redefined through a contemporary poetic where body mass dynamism and spatial fluidity prevail over strict anatomical description; concerning its style and theme, the work explores intimacy, desire, and complicity through a three-dimensional grouping of three closely embraced nude torsos, whose hands and limbs trace an enfolding, continuous rhythm that invites the viewer into a 360-degree circular reading, preserving on its surface the marks of direct modeling in the original wax; regarding the destination of her work and institutional presence, Fili Plaza's sculptures form part of the collections of prestigious private foundations such as the Fundació Vila Casas, public contemporary art collections, monumental urban installations, and distinguished corporate and private collections across Spain, Andorra, France, and various European countries.

PLAZA, Fili

Fili Plaza (born in Salamanca in 1957) is an established sculptor and jewelry designer based in Barcelona whose creations stand out for a profound dialogue between the plasticity of form, the strength of materials, and sensitivity toward the human figure and female identity; initially trained in Interior Design at the prestigious School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona (Llotja) and supplementing her training in modeling and texture through various advanced studies in Ceramics under the mentorship of leading ceramists and master craftsmen of the Catalan artisanal scene, she began her exhibition career in 1988, establishing ever since a prolific trajectory with solo and group exhibitions across reputable art galleries, international fairs, and design salons in Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, France, Andorra, Belgium, Germany, and Japan; stylistically, her artistic output explores emotions, desire, and bodily expression through the subtle and tactile working of lost-wax cast bronze, aluminum, resin, and ceramics, evolving naturally from 2003 onward into the realm of studio jewelry, conceiving each piece of goldsmithing as a wearable small-format sculpture filled with gesture, movement, and sensuality; over more than three decades of intense creative activity, her unique aesthetic universe and refined imagination have led her to receive major awards and to incorporate her work into prominent private collections, urban spaces, corporate holdings, and cultural foundations across Europe and internationally that attest to the relevance, artistic value, and contemporary standing of her three-dimensional language.
