This imposing figurative sculpture standing 57 cm high, cast in dense solid bronze by the renowned Catalan sculptor Manel Vidal Torrens (Barcelona, b. 1953), represents a masterly document of contemporary lyrical figurativism and high expertise in lost-wax art casting. Conceived within the exclusive classification of an original edition —juridically and commercially cataloged as a unique piece as it does not exceed the statutory limit of eight casts—, the artwork features the numbering 6/6 incised in the bronze alongside the raised calligraphic seal on the base, confirming the definitive closure of this limited series of supreme investment quality. The composition portrays a seated female figure upon a streamlined, geometric structure that intentionally contrasts with the softness, voluptuousness, and organic flow of the female form. Firmly rooted in the Mediterranean tradition of renewed Noucentisme and the classical echoes of 20th-century figurative realism, the piece draws inspiration from master sculptors such as Josep Llimona, Enric Clarasó, and Auguste Rodin, displaying an absolute devotion to the study of the nude draped in fabric, subtle contrapposto, and psychological introspection. Vidal Torrens' technical virtuosity is evident in the rendering of the drapery, where the rough, vibrant, and impressionistic texture of the fringed shawl wraps around the figure and interacts with the smooth polish of the skin, creating a surface play of light and shadow that imparts palpable warmth and lyricism to the bronze. The solidity of the heavy solid bronze not only grants the sculpture a monumental presence but also guarantees the tactile and chromatic durability of its dark patinas enriched with coppery highlights and greenish undertones. Manel Vidal Torrens' career enjoys widespread institutional and museum recognition, with his figurative output represented in public and private collections internationally, as well as in public monuments and exhibition halls dedicated to contemporary classical sculpture, making this unique limited cast an artwork of exceptional interest for high-end collection and art market investment.
